Ehattesaht
The Ehattesaht First Nation are a Nuu-chah-nulth Nation located on the northwest coast of Vancouver Island, with traditional territory centred around Zeballos Inlet and the surrounding coastal waters and forests. As part of the Nuu-chah-nulth peoples, the Ehattesaht have lived in close relationship with the land and sea for countless generations, sustaining their community through fishing, hunting, gathering, and trade. Their culture is deeply rooted in language, ceremony, and hereditary governance, reflecting a strong spiritual and practical connection to their territory.
The language they speak is the Nuu-chah-nulth language, which stands for "along the mountains and the sea" signified by the environment in which they lived.
